Where I really rely on upscaling technology is when I create AI backgrounds. So most of the time I don’t need upscaling for just my photography. Obviously, I don’t always need to print that large. In those cases I need to upscale my photos. It’s plenty enough megapixels for me but I do make very large prints sometimes - as large as 12 feet on the longest side. I use the Fuji X100V which has 26.1 MP sensor. (Fill in the blank - if your camera has at least 8MP of resolution - you have enough to do most things photographers do these days.) Older cameras that were state-of-the-art when they launched are now looked down upon because they “only” have _MP of resolution. Often, in my personal opinion - too much resolution. Most of the newer, more expensive cameras have lots of resolution. Lenses are always valuable (provided you don’t change system brands) but camera bodies come and go. I have always been a guy who advocates using the best lenses on the oldest camera bodies when you want to save money.
